The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Buncombe county Location & Surveys team. In this role you willProvide advanced technical work supporting higher level technicians & engineers. Serve as a survey crew leader providing base mapping for highway design functions. Conduct conventional surveys using CADD equipment and GPS. Analyze computing editing processing and recommend corrective actions for data sources. Review and ensure completeness and accuracy of completed field data and CADD mappings prepared by NCDOT survey parties. Make decisions and use your judgment when directing the work of others. Ensure survey crew safety during field operations. What You BringExperience accurately reading comprehending interpreting and applying NCDOT procedures policies on CADD data plans sheets and maps related to engineering and land surveying. Experience planning directing overseeing and leading lower level technicians in survey field and office work. Experience working with survey equipment i.e. total stations and GNSS receivers. Experience developing maps plans using CADD software. Knowledge of standards principles and practices of NC surveying. Expertise and understanding of the concepts practices and theories used in surveying. Ability to serve as technical expert while independently accomplishing assigned tasks. Skills to independently conduct complex inspections for compliance with contract agreements standards codes and specifications. Ability to perform highly complex technical work in a specific materials area or perform a wide range of sampling testing and inspection duties to determine codes standards adherence. Strong decision-making and judgment abilities. Excellent verbal and written skills to express complex technical program concepts and related facts in a clear concise organized and persuasive manner. Adaptability to modify your delivery language and materials to different stakeholder groups. Experience to serve as lead or resource. Attention-to-detail to maintain detailed records. Ability to analyze findings and recommend corrective actions. Education & ExperienceAssociates Degree in Civil Engineering Survey Technology or a related discipline and 3 years of relevant experience or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
