The successful candidate will perform didactic and clinical education assist the Program Director in developing program strategy and policies and execute appropriate curriculum class governance regarding each fellow enrolled in the doctoral program. Will act as the pediatrics curriculum educator to reflect the diverse curriculum and practices that are not common to military OT officer practice settings but required for the professional degree and will augment the Government staff for OTD as directed in support of U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE) located at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) at Ft. Sam Houston TX.Essential Duties & Responsibilities Pediatrics Educator Responsibilities Serve as primary faculty for the program in the area of pediatrics for occupational therapy. Perform a wide variety of duties to include didactic and clinical education developing program strategy and policies and executing appropriate governance in regards to each fellow enrolled in the doctoral program. Maintain currency of practice standards as required to meet faculty appointment per ACOTE Baylor University and MEDCOE standards and policies. Provide current state-of-evidence education and training for the evaluation and therapeutic interventions to a full range of wounded ill and injured patients with but not limited to physical rehabilitation musculoskeletal extremity injury neurological and or cognitive impairments pain and behavioral health disorders. Act as a senior education consultant to the Program Director U.S. Army-Baylor OTD an O-6 position. Advise the Program Director professional students and occupational therapy service staff on clinical research projects in or related to occupational therapy including but not limited to study design data collection data analysis publication and presentation. General Instructor Responsibilities Develop education and training curriculum chair and participate in doctoral research capstone experiences and develops policies and guidelines to ensure integration of comprehensive plans processes and activities in support the program and institution s strategic objectives. Lecture and lead practical clinical instruction sessions in occupational therapy. Grade examinations papers and practical exercises. Develop revise and update course material ensuring course material is integrated with objectives and goals of each associated program. Assist in the formulation preparation and execution of examinations by developing exam questions practical exercises etc. Recommend new course objectives following reassessment of the changing responsibilities of each profession program when needed. Coordinate course materials with other program instructors in each program i.e. Nursing Anesthesia Physical Therapy Physician Assistant and Nutrition to ensure most effective material is taught to each group thereby ensuring maximum consistency with associated program goals and doctrine. Develop and execute laboratory protocols for the production of anatomical teaching specimens. Assist in the development of computer-based and interactive video programs that augment human anatomy and physiology classroom instruction as required. As necessary conducts instruction-related research to maintain expertise in new methods and technologies. Conduct doctoral student evaluations via board (oral or other) participation as well as composing administering and grading written and practical examinations research papers and other assignments as given. Operate with a high degree of independence and work is reviewed from an overall perspective for attainment of goals outlined in the program strategic plan faculty development plans and expected results. Support Program Director and staff execution of monetary and equipment grants including writing grant proposals coordinating the use of grant money and equipment in conducting program activities and directly coordinating with grant foundations and sources in maintaining a clear and ethical accounting system for grant resources. Coordinate class schedules for each group. Comply with MEDCoE and Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) policies regarding personal appearance and conduct. Meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements as directed by MTF. Responsible for following all MEDCoE policies procedures and regulations in support of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. Maintain security over all teaching materials not allowing for them to be improperly reproduced or distributed. Report student discipline problems to the appropriate government representative as soon as possible. Refer all student requests for exceptions or academic considerations to the appropriate government representative. May not at any time approve exceptions to program policies. Duties are subject to change based on the needs of the government customer Other duties as assigned. Education Certification & Experience Requirements Required Board Certified as an Occupational Therapist by the National Board Certification for Occupational Therapy Obtain and maintain a current active valid unrestricted license to practice Occupational Therapy Hold a Doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body At least four (4) years of experience within the last five years teaching occupational therapy. Ability to abide by all credentialing processes required by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and MEDCoE Ability to pass and maintain a Tier 1 (T1) Investigation (Federal background check). A current adjudicated T1 or higher investigation or Security clearance is preferred Preferred Experience as a Pediatric OT or instructing pediatric OT courses Four (4) years of experience within the last five (5) years working as a licensed Occupational Therapist in the area of wellness or neuroscience is highly desirable. Four (4) years of experience within the last five (5) years of conducting research writing for peer-review publications and presentation of research within the academic community in the field of occupational therapy is highly desirable. Military experience preferably in the U.S. Army with relevant military occupational specialty (MOS) Completion of the Army Common Faculty Development Instructor Course or Developer Course Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required Professional knowledge skills and experience to meet all requirements of an academic position at the professor level with the affiliating university Ability to stand for long periods of time while in the field or classroom Be able to read write and speak English fluently Possess excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills Be capable of learning and utilizing current and emerging military and commercial technology Capable of performing a variety of writing tasks ensuring cohesiveness clarity flow and compliance with Army and grammatical writing guidelines Be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and incorporated programs to include Excel PowerPoint Word and Outlook and be able to troubleshoot basic computer hardware and software required for services being provided Working Conditions Working Environment Physical Demands Services will be provided at government facilities. Work Locations Include Ft Sam Houston TX and BAMC Conduct instruction in a variety of environments to include classroom laboratory clinical or field instruction Standard hours are Mon-Fri 0730-1630 Direct patients contact minimum 8 hours per month May be exposed to infections or disease while providing direct patient health care Credentialed providers are required to meet specific immunization requirements as dictated by the MEDCoE and the MTF During clinical rotations at San Antonio Military Medical Center North (SAMMC) staff may be required to wear specific scrubs or clothing. Works under general supervision of and reports to the Program Manager Local travel may be required infrequently.
