CONSTRUCTIVIST WALL SCULPTURE IN FLIGHT

The dimensions of this work are 48 X 30 inches - comprised of layers of GATORBOARD a fiendishly sturdy eggshell like surfaced propriatary foam core material which lends itself to contortions easily and resists cracking beyond belief. At its highest the right upper corner is 6 inches and the left lower corner is 5 inches high. The opposite corners lower right is 1 3 4 and upper left is 2 1 2 inches high. The internal structure is assured via poplar battens affixed with skill known to violin makers or in my case 18 century French and Italian harpsichord makers. The edges which form the black opening well as well as the wing are shaved to a fine edge denying any expression of volume i.e. thickness which the structure otherwise clearly presumes to possess. The bottom of the well is lined with black non-reflective velvet cloth which adds to the mystery. The sides framing and the back are 1 4 poplar plywood with reinforced corners. The tensile contortion owing to the varied dimensionality makes the whole piece dance as one walks past it or even while moving one s head from side to side. The dark grey appearing flat enamel has a slight greenish hue.
