Death is defeated

Death defeated By Ronald Ellis Death is a stark and sometimes dark reminder that we live in a fallen world. Most of us have faced the reality of death through the loss of a loved one or dear friend. Eventually we will face it ourselves. Death is inevitable we were born to die. We have made attempts to forestall death. Medical science advancements have resulted in cures for many diseases that in earlier human history led to the death of thousands. We are grateful for these advances but in the long run all attempts to avert death will fail. That is except one. Through Christ s resurrection all enemies of the Lord have been vanquished including the greatest enemy of all death. This is good news By His own death Jesus paid the price to redeem us from death and the grave By His resurrection He conquered death and gave us the victory. Yes physical death still will come to us all (unless the Lord returns first). However death is not the end for believers in Christ but rather a transition into the presence of the Lord where we will live in heaven forever and ever. Some pertinent verses follow 1 Corinthians 15 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 1 Corinthians 15 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption and this mortal shall have put on immortality then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written Death is swallowed up in victory.1 Corinthians 15 55 O death where is thy sting O grave where is thy victory 1 Corinthians 15 56 The sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law.1 Corinthians 15 57 But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.1 Corinthians 15 58 Therefore my beloved brethren be ye stedfast unmoveable always abounding in the work of the Lord forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord 2 Corinthians 5 6 Therefore we are always confident knowing that whilst we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord 2 Corinthians 5 7 (For we walk by faith not by sight )2 Corinthians 5 8 We are confident I say and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.2 Corinthians 5 9 Wherefore we labour that whether present or absent we may be accepted of him. Hebrews 2 14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood he also himself likewise took part of the same that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death that is the devil Hebrews 9 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgment. (We all face this. Each person is destined to live here on earth once then die once and then be judged). [2 Samuel 14 14 Ecclesiastes 3 2]
