Original Japanese print in colors on tan paper after Utagawa Utamaro. Titled Flow Fan the image shows a courtesan named Flower Fan (Hanau Ogi) writing a letter to an admirer. The image is part of a series called Top 6 Beauties . Llikely created in the late 1940 s after the original 18th century Utamoro woodblock print. The publishers stamp (Puo Omiya) is on the lower left of the image. This print was inspected prior to framing by an expert in Japanese art. He said the lack of baren marks on the back were strong evidence that it was printed from zinc plates as opposed to wood blocks. (There would be significantly more marks on the back from the baren if it was a woodblock print.) This print is framed in a bamboo style frame and double-matted in tan fabric and red matting. Covered in glass. Frame size 21-1 2 inches H x 16-1 2 inches W (54.6 cm H x 41.9 cm W). COA. Closeup photos and more details at www.jdsmithfineart.com styles japanese-art utagawa-utamaro-flower-fan.
