The County of Orange is a regional service provider and planning agency whose core businesses include public safety public health environmental protection regional planning public assistance social services and aviationTHE OPPORTUNITY The Laundry Worker is responsible for the washing drying pressing sorting and issuing of laundry items in County detention or residential facilities. The position may also be assigned to train and or review the work of inmate trustees or minors in detention and residential facilities who are assigned to work in the laundry area. Some facilities are 24 7 and may require multiple working shifts and weekends. Some work locations will require a high level of confidentiality.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES The ideal candidate will have experience in an industrial setting and familiarity with sorting clothes using laundry equipment to clean clothes storing and issuing clothing and keeping a running inventory. In addition the ideal candidate will possess the drive to excel communicate effectively and become a knowledgeable worker. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability to Distinguish differences in shapes and sizes of laundry items and torn items needing repair Identify and treat stains in laundry items Read signs labels work schedules and simple instructions in English Understand and follow oral directions in English Write simple messages in English Count add and subtract small numbers Speak English sufficiently to communicate clearly to others Other Requirements The selected candidate may be required to pass an extensive background investigation and must not be on any form of probation. View the full job bulletin to view the minimum qualifications for the Laundry Worker and details of this classification.Physical Environmental Qualifications Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of laundry bend stoop squat crawl climb ladders and walk and or stand for long periods of time exposure to noise regular contact with chemicals or biological agents. Some positions may require the ability to push 100-to-150 pound wheeled laundry carts with assistance.RECRUITMENT PROCESSMinimum Qualifications Screening (Refer Non-Refer) Human Resource Services (HRS) will screen all application materials to identify qualified candidates. After screening candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process. All candidates will be notified via email of their status in the process. Application Appraisal Panel Application Rating (Weighted 100%) An Application Appraisal Panel (AAP) of job knowledge experts will thoroughly screen and evaluate all application materials for job knowledge competencies and related experience described above. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list. Based on the Department s needs the selection procedures listed above may be modified. Candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedures. Completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the County may be required for some assignments.Eligible List Once the assessment has been completed HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
