Nemo - Male Yorkie Yorkshire Terrier Mix

Initial Bio 9 23 16 Meet Nemo Nemo is a little Yorkie boy who is approximately 6-7 years old He is a bit underweight at 8.5 pounds. Nemo is being fostered in West Palm Beach FL. Nemo may be a little younger than we think. His teeth are in pretty good shape and the vet ventured a guess that based on that he is younger so we are not exactly sure of his age. It s pretty clear at a glance that Nemo has been neglected for quite some time. He was turned in as a stray at a local high kill shelter and not only did his owner not come for him but because of his appearance he had no interest from public so the shelter turned to United Yorkie Rescue for help. Nemo has an advanced yeast infection of his skin and is not only missing a lot of fur but his skin is irritated and thickened in many places. We are hoping that with a medicated bath 3 times a week as well as some anti-itching medication a good diet and extra omega 3 s his appearance will start to improve in the next several weeks although it might take several months for him to come into his full potential as the adorable dog he is. Nemo seems to be house trained however he is drinking a lot of water and also urinating frequently He is having a few accidents in the house but his foster parents are letting him out often and that is helping. Since he is so new to his foster home some of this may be him just getting adjusted to another new situation. The vet did a urine analysis and showed that he does have a UTI. He is now on antibiotics for that. Frequently when dogs that were strays come from the shelter it can take them several days to properly settle in. We are hoping all the water consumption is just that since his blood test showed that his liver and kidney functions are fine. No surprise either that his white blood cells were elevated and at this point the vet thinks it is due to his overall poor condition and yeast infection. Nemo has been in his foster home for a day now with cats and other dogs. He is still not feeling his best but he has shown no interest in the cats and gets along with the other dogs. He is very sweet and friendly with people he has met. He has however shown some signs of resource guarding over a bone which is typical so his foster parents are no longer giving him dog bones to chew on. They think he will be fine with other animals but this could change once he is feeling better. Nemo s foster parents are not sure when he will be ready for adoption but hopefully his skin will be fully cleared up in the next 2 months or so. Nemo was a stray dog and like many of the strays we get from the shelters he thinks it s perfectly okay to run out the front door when it s opened. Nemo will be taught that it is not okay to run out any door and his foster parents are making sure he is contained when a door to the outside is opened. Right now Nemo would need a home with adults only or with children over the age of 14 who understand the importance of closing all doors and making sure Nemo is not near any opened door....
