Handsome as they come Mister Max is a real character. He is still an adolescent dog at two years old although he probably will not grow much his brain will develop. We all know a developing brain needs guidance. Although Mister Max can appear to be large and in charge that is typical of dogs his size who are much bigger than their wisdom as yet. You wouldn t give the car keys to a kid who was his equivalent in maturity. With guidance management structure training and many good times he should be a superior citizen of the world.We found that Max loves people gently after the initial energy surge dies down and he wants to please. He loves a massage which calms him down. Too bad he can t reciprocate on that. Oh well he will offer you the chance to exercise for long periods of the day. He is close to understanding the game of fetch start with two or three balls to let him know there is more fun to be had once he drops the one in his mouth. He also likes to play tug but doesn t know the rules yet. And he loves treats all this leads to him becoming an excellent student using treats and toys and your attentions as rewards for getting it right.Because Mister Max is sort of a clumsy giant at this time we hope his family will all be sturdy and able to help him learn to sit instead of jumping up. And mature enough to participate in his education.Mister Max is equally over the top with the dogs he met. We saw no bad intentions but he should not be around more delicate dogs or dogs who are sensitive about manners. This precludes going to dog parks and the like. He could have some well matched friends though and time outs if and when he gets too excited. He has been known to guard the water bowl from other dogs. This would make it difficult to house him with another dog.So if you have the time energy and commitment right now to attend to Max s schooling using motivational methods you are in for real treat. He is longing for a family to bond to. If you want a hiking buddy a dog to teach tricks scenting maybe even agility fill up that large toy basket be sure you have a well fenced yard and enjoy this fellow.
