Accepting Applications It s finally time to start looking for Ziva s forever home. Z is a 130 5 year old English Mastiff. For those who have not followed her story on our page a quick recap Z was abandoned in Lincoln City. When I drove to get her I found her living in too small dirty neglectful conditions. She had a mouthful of broken teeth a skin infection that had gone untreated long enough to cause dozens of growths all over her body ranging in size from tiny nubs to large dangling growths that required several stitches after being removed a body so weak she fell if bumped and an intense fear of - everything. That was four months ago. Z has cleared the skin infection undergone surgery to remove the growths remove the broken teeth and be spayed. She is three weeks post surgery and doing great. I feel it s time to start finding her a home to live out her days in love and safety something she has known far to little of in her life. Before applying please make sure you understand the happy smiling comfortable dog we experience took months to come out in her. She has had a very hard life and has serious stranger-danger issues. She is not going to see a potential adopter and come running up to them seeking loves. She will need someone content to take her home and commit to the patience and time she needs to find her trust in them. She still fears a leash. She travels great in a car but is afraid to get into it. I believe with time and a good person she could overcome these fears. Her food has to be filled with water so she can lap it up she needs to stay in a grain free potatoe free salmon food ( 58 bag) due to her confinement the first 4-5 years of her life she has severe arthritis in her back. This mean she needs to stay on her joint supplement for life and may need stronger pain management as she ages. It also means I do not want her in a home with children under 13 or with other dogs that would want to play and might hurt her. ((Just a note to clarify - Z does great with other dogs she lives with seven other large dogs right now but she would need a calm dog that would not rough house with her or run into her or jump on her. Her body can t take that but she could live happily with a calm dog in fact I think it would be very helpful in her adjusting to her new home.))Z needs a beautiful heart to offer her a safe place to just sort of be . She spends most of her time on the couch sleeping. Does great for baths likes to play with the water hose and LOVES her squeaky toys She is sweet and loving and funny.
