Hi my name is Ares I am a 4 1 2 year old handsome male German Shepherd. My owner surrendered me to SGSR because she was moving into an apartment that did not allow big dogs. She had raised me from a puppy. I was a little confused when I first got to my foster parent s home but I soon warmed up and now feel very comfortable there. I think I am a pretty smart dog I know my basic commands and am house and crate trained. I am very food treat motivated so there is still a lot I can learn. I am great in the car and love to go for car rides. My previous owner said my favorite place to sit in the car was in the front seat but so far I have only ridden in the back of my foster family s SUV but I settle down right a way and just lay down and chill and enjoy the ride I love attention when I am not getting enough of it I will gently nudge your arm and look at you with my big brown eyes begging for some petting. I also love belly rubs and ear rubs. My favorite toy to play with is anything that squeaks or anything that we can play tug with. I also love to chase tennis balls I like to chase them and bring them back but am still working on the drop command a lot of the time I would rather just chew on the tennis ball and not give it up. My foster mom thinks I am too skinny so she is helping me to gain about 10 lbs.-which the vet agreed with. I get along with other dogs but my favorite best friend right now is my foster family s 1 year old Yorkie. We play chase each other around the house and just act crazy with each other. We are known in the neighborhood as Mutt and Jeff am not sure which one I am though I really want a family to call my own so if you are looking for a faithful loveable big dog I am it Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview a call to your veterinarian and a home visit.
