Approximate Age 1.5 years.Weight 11 pounds.I bet you re thinking to yourself What an adorable face Hi my name is Dahlia. I m a female Chihuahua Dachshund mix. My past goes something like this I was born in early 2015 and raised by a backyard breeder. Backyard breeders are motivated by profit. If a dog isn t adopted while it s a puppy (or still fairly young) the breeder will figure out a different plan of action and some of those options aren t good. Thankfully the right decision was made and my brother and I were surrendered to a rescue organization who in March 2016 transferred us over to Twin Cities Pet Rescue. Prior to being rescued I had minimal interaction with humans. I ll admit I m a painfully shy little girl and it s going to take a special family to understand that my people socialization skills are poles apart from most dogs. The good news is I do great with other dogs. In fact I will blossom and grow if I have another dog to shadow because I learn best from watching other dogs have positive experiences with humans -- kind of like If they can do it then so should I. Both of the foster homes I ve been in have had multiple dogs. It s due to their good teachings that I m doing so well. If I feel a little anxious I ll figure out a safe zone place and stay out of your way. You ll notice a heightened level of skittishness when you move around the house. Upright people are so big to me. However once you sit down or lay down I ll come to you. All I ask for is patience. Lots of patience. I m housetrained. I like my crate (but I prefer to be with you if you re home or when you re sleeping). It s best if you don t make sudden movements around me and walk slowly when I m nearby. I need to find a home with a secure fenced yard. If you have older gentle respectful kids only (ages 13 and up) that s great. I m simply not ready for anyone younger than that quite yet. I love to rough-house with appropriately playful dogs my size almost to a fault. In fact you might have to break up the party when I get super silly and excited. I haven t learned how to walk on a leash yet (that s a little too close to those big long moving parts on humans called legs). To be perfectly honest here I would not be a good candidate for adoption by someone who has never owned a dog before. I think the way you word it is Experience preferred. Slowly but most definitely surely I m becoming more and more confident and trustworthy. There s a happy loving sweetheart of a dog in me. I need teachers to help my find my inner self people teachers and dog teachers. My foster family can give you a progress report. It really does change daily. I have new little breakthroughs every day. From where I was six months ago you d be so proud of me. The reward of your life is waiting for you and it s me.
