Phone (415) ---X Fax (415) ---X Address 171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd. Novato A Little Bit About Us Jax and his buddy Layla came to us together when their person could not be home enough to give them the life they deserve. He appears to be a mix of Terrier and Pug or is that Whippet and Pug Or all three He is very shy at first and needs time to feel comfortable with new people and places. He showed a tiny bit of interest in the ball and we hope he will develop his object play side when in his new home. He is much happier when with his sister Layla. He was tolerant with handling here but easily frightened by sudden noises changes in environment movements and new people. Jax needs more mature handling by dog savvy children over fourteen or so. It will help to allow him to get close to people under his own initiative rather than to reach for him. He did not seem to have much interest in other dogs and was worried if they were energetic around him. But he hangs out nicely with his BFF Layla. She brings some confidence to Jax and Jax helps her remember to listen to the people in the room as he is less distracted by his nose. Layla and her buddy Jax came to us together when their person could not be home enough to give them the life they deserve. She appears to be a mix of Beagle and Pug popularly called a Puggle . Layla is very friendly although following her nose may be even more important to her. She is also keen on toys especially the small size squeaky tennis ball. What a hoot. Although she is classified as a senior Layla still has what it takes and more. Maybe she doesn t need quite as much exercise as a young Beagle but that might be a good thing. She is very playful with toys enjoys people and gets along well with her young friend Jax. In fact they want to go home together. She is tolerant and loving although she should be walked on leash only by adults because she follows her nose and could get lost easily. She does have the Beagle voice as well though somewhat lessened by her Pug side and will not be a good neighbor for apartment life or other close quarters. She seems quieter with Jax around than when alone. While she is probably okay with younger children Jax is easily frightened and needs more mature handling. Layla was fine being introduced to other dogs but soon lost interest. She hangs out nicely with her current BFF Jax. She brings some confidence to Jax and Jax helps her remember to listen to the people in the room as he is less distracted by his nose. Having a pair of dogs is great. Layla is the more confident dog of the two and Jax still worried when left alone with her in the room. He hid in the most hard to find nook in the room while she stayed by the door and talked about her feelings. Someone should be home most of the time to help them start to learn to feel safe. Although they may have an aversion to the crate after being crated too much it would be great for him to have an open crate of his own (door missing) to feel safe when necessary. Perhaps they can be limited to one safe room with nothing for them to get into. Be sure they are well exercised before leaving them alone and start with very short times away. Don t be shy with long walks both dogs need to lose a few pounds. Watch their food intake to keep them slim as well. Try to have things for both dogs to do with you separately as well as together. Hang out with Layla and Jax. Take them for a walk to see how nice they are walking together with you. You won t have any of that adolescent dog attitude to put up with while you enjoy their mellow but active views of the world.
