Jack - Male Toy Fox Terrier Mix

Shy Jack has the long legs and light build of a racer. He is just stunning in his tricolor suit. He needs a very dog savvy home where he can thrive. Because he is shy and so physically delicate his home should be adult and physically capable. He can get underfoot so beware that you don t fall over him He needs serious management and structure that means rules to keep him from becoming overly territorial about his home and person.Being in a new place has been very difficult for Jack. He has been slow to adjust here but he will adjust more quickly in his new home. He attaches strongly to the person or people who are around him most. Be patient don t give him too much to deal with at first. He thinks his job is to keep people away from you and him. Instead teach him to respond to the basic cues sit down wait and tricks such as shake and especially touch . Touch is a tool to help him learn to meet new people on his terms as he learns to be more relaxed with their presence. His body language can give you an idea about how close he can be to the new people. The other cues will help you teach him to focus on you at a safe distance from people and be rewarded for doing his real job.Although he is a tiny fellow Jack has all he needs to be a great dog. He responds well to nice t-i-n-y treats so he will be a good student when you teach him all the basics. Start out with your behavior consultation during the adoption process.
