Pirata is a mature boy but still has the playfulness of a puppy and then some. Before arriving at the shelter he lived outside in circumstances where he didn t get enough exercise making him overly excitable. Now that he can run and play with his doggy friends at least twice a day he s channeling that energy into sociability. Pirata is a very affectionate and gentle dude who loves toys. He s eager to go for runs but then happy to snuggle with his human companions. Because Pirata is a vigorous working breed he will do best in a family with only older kids and dogs his size or bigger. Pirata has been working on his Canine Good Citizen skills with APA staff and volunteers. To pass the American Kennel Club s CGC test (and be considered CGC-ready by APA) a dog must demonstrate obedience and general reliability in real world situations. An APA CGC-ready dog knows sit and down walks nicely on leash will sit calmly when you are approached by strangers or another dog won t approach people or dogs without permission stays in sit or down until told free and comes when called. This training is very connected to your dog s relationship with you so regardless of where Pirata is in this training program at the time of adoption APA will work with you to help you establish this relationship and keep the training going.
