40 Years Old, Busted and Disgusted Until Now

When I was a kid I imagined growing up to achieve great things. I knew that I was destined for something special. I didn t really care about living in mansions or driving expensive cars. But I did expect to live an abundant and blessed lifestyle that would allow me to do what I wanted on my own terms.I thought that there was something within me that would enable me to achieve greatness in life. I just knew that I could obtain the desires of my heart. As a result I slowly gave up on my dreams and began focusing on what I perceived to be the safe and conservative course for my life.I went to college got a degree in business and began working in sales. In the meantime I married my beautiful wife we bought our first house and started having kids. I was so happy that I had a family I had a wonderful family. Finally after working so hard for many years it seemed like momentum was finally on my side. I had finally arrived and it seemed as if all of my hard work of the years had paid off. I expected my monthly income to continue to increase from here on out...but surprisingly it didn t... Then the president of my company made some stupid decisions which adversely affected my quality of life at work and potential to make income. Slowly my income began to drop as our customers started turning their backs on us. At first it was a bad month in commissions. The bad month turned into a bad quarter. The bad quarter turned into a gloomy outlook for remainder of 2013. Very quickly I found myself in a position where the cliche there is more month at the end of my money became all too real Slowly the savings we had began to erode away....cash flow continued to decrease....it became more and more challenging to continue to pay our bills in a timely manner. Purchases that I took for granted like buying back to school clothes for the kids paying for braces performing basic car maintenance all of the sudden became very stressful transactions. In the meantime my company assured me that they were taking steps to correct the mistakes that had been made. I was promised that the problems which caused our downturn in business were being fixed and soon I would return to a place of abundance that I so desperately wanted and deserved. I kept going the extra mile....but things just kept getting worse.Finally one day I acknowledged the fact that things were not getting better and that they probably were not going to improve. I acknowledged that I had made the fatal mistake of placing the well being of my family s financial future in the hands of my employer. For some reason I believed that my company would never let me down as long as I kept giving them by best. My company did not look out for my best interests. After experiencing great income for awhile I found myself in the humiliating situation of not being able to afford to pay for some important things. My car needed to have part of the engine rebuilt again the woodwork on our house was rotting windows needed to be replaced everyone in my family needed new clothes the kids had more expensive interests in sports our second child also needed new braces. . .. and the list of financial obligations just kept growing while my income continued to decrease.Rather than allow calamity to fall on me I began to look for other options. One evening I was invited to listen to an audio by a gentlemen named Tony Rush. Tony had been down a similar road. As a great employee Tony worked hard but could barely make ends meet for many painful years. Then one day Tony decided to make a change. He made a change that in a short period of time brought his family away from financial ruin into financial abundance. Tony told in this audio that I have to accept full responsibility for my present condition. I realized that it was actually not my employer s fault for the dire financial situation I was in it was my responsibility. It was the culmination of my thoughts and choices that put me in this situation. Tony said that my best thinking got me to where I was on that day. Taking full responsibility was sobering and empowering at the same time. I realized that by taking full responsibility I now had the ability to change the outcome of my life moving forward. First there was the financial services company where you could offer people a better way to buy life insurance and use the savings to create investments. To be successful with this opportunity you had to become a licensed insurance agent. After 2 days of insurance classes I could not take the boredom any more and I quit.Next I found an opportunity in the classified section of the Thrifty Nickel to sell long distance in a direct sales business model. I met some creepy old guy at a Denny s. He started drawing circles on napkins and talking about exponential growth. After a couple of days of trying to do the business I was so turned off from replaying his presentation in my mind that I quit again. Then we found an opportunity through a friend of a friend. She asked us to invest 900 into a MLM business which sold high end dinner ware and home furnishings. She claimed that the timing was right because she had a bunch of people that she was going to put underneath us. We would be able to make our money back right away as she would be putting more people in our downline to make it grow. Our ROI would be realized fast Unfortunately she never kept to her word. No one was ever placed into our organization. We never made a cent. The company was shut down a few months later and the last I heard was CEO had been indicted for fraudulent activities. Then there was the herbal weight loss company which seemed to help all of the people in the testimonials. But for some reason it didn t help me lose weight. I sold a few bottles but couldn t experience the results. So I quit that too. After these experiences I stopped focusing on the network marketing industry for quite a few years. Move forward about 15 years and I I had joined another opportunity. This time I finally found a legitimate MLM company that offered a great offering in the energy essential home services industries. While this business model resonated with me I could not take enough time away from my full time job and my family responsibilities to work the business effectively. If I were to keep moving forward with this company there would be a price to pay. The price was a significant amount of my time. . ..time away from my family.
