Baretta - Female Hound (Unknown Type) Mix

Baretta is a very special 3 year old girl with a very special story. Here is the short version Baretta was found by a Dog People foster volunteer just outside of some woods in Albany. She was emaciated swollen like she was recently nursing and had what appeared to be a gun shot wound to the head. Due to the apparent gunshot wound Baretta was picked up and brought to the shelter where she would be safe and her wounds could be more closely examined. As volunteers searched for puppies in the woods where she was found Baretta was leaking milk and becoming increasingly restless at the shelter. Thirty-six hours after she was initially found a shelter staff member suggested the volunteers bring mom back to the same woods to see if maybe she could lead them to puppies (if they were even there). So back to the woods Baretta and her original rescuer went. As they entered the woods Baretta began increasing her pace eventually dragging her rescuer through vines and branches as fast as she could. When Baretta finally stopped one by one four puppies emerged from under a fallen tree trunk and latched onto mom. The relief could be seen in Baretta s face and it was then that we realized what an amazing dog and mother she is. Once help arrived Baretta watched her two rescuers load her babies into a carrier and they all made their way back out of the woods. Once back at the shelter she watched as staff and volunteers bathed all four pups before the family was tucked into their kennel for the evening. Even after the babies were weaned Baretta s maternal instincts remained as strong as ever. Baretta s puppies have all been adopted (one adopted locally and three adopted in New Jersey) and she is now out of the shelter and safe in her foster home. Baretta is about 3-4 years old spayed and microchipped. She is HW positive and has begun the slow kill method of treatment. Baretta is finally getting her chance to be taken care of and she is absolutely loving it. She has picked up on house training very quickly and has not had any accidents since the first few days in her foster home. Baretta s most favorite part about life as a foster pup is all the snuggle that she gets from her foster mom & dad. She will literally stop whatever she is doing (even running zoomies around the yard) if she sees someone sit down on the couch. She has also been spoiled in foster and sleeps in the bed with foster mom & dad every night Baretta gets along well with other dogs but doesn t like to share her food (or yours). Her fosters are working on teaching her that her food is safe and she will never be hungry again. She is a super smart girl and learning very quickly Baretta is ready to find her forever home now If you are interested in meeting Baretta and making her your newest family member go ahead and submit an adoption application If approved a volunteer will contact you about setting up a meet & greet and home visit Submit an Adoption Application Click HereSubmit an adoption application for any of our dogs by visiting our website at this link -X -.-------.- portfolio adoptable-dogs ...
