Spencer - Male Domestic Shorthair Mix

Spencer was found as stray kitten in Mill Valley. He and his sister spent the past few weeks in one of our fabulous foster homes. Spencer is a shy boy but once he feels comfortable will play play play. He would do best in a home with another outgoing kitten or young cat who can show him the world isn t such a scary place. A shy kitten will do best in a quiet home with an experienced guardian who understands that patience and plenty of TLC will be needed to help a scardy kitten become comfortable in his new surroundings. Begin by giving Spencer a small private room outfitted with everything that he will need for the first few weeks. Make sure Spencer has a hiding box or a bed with high sides so that he can feel safe and secure. Spend lots of time together enticing Spencer to play with a toy or two and talking quietly while you snuggle and cuddle with each other. Eventually he will relax in your presence and begin to purr.When the time comes to allow brief explorations beyond the safety of this private space carefully supervise Spencer s coming out party. Quietly introduce him to visitors in your home so that he becomes accustomed to other people as well as to you. This is very important since the world is unpredictable and Spencer will need to feel safe with a variety of people during his lifetime including veterinarians. In time he will feel secure in your home and become a devoted and affectionate companion. Please do understand that a shy cat may always need a safe place to hide from time to time and often when strangers come to visit.
