Merida - Female Labrador RetrieverGolden Retriever Mix

You ve waited for a full update on our brave princess Merida... here it is. Got a couple minutes I m feeling wordy and want you to have the FULL update nothing left out When we first accepted Merida (thank you Nicole and Terry for transporting over 4 hours when the highways were flooded) we were told she got the injury to her face after falling out of the back of a truck. You saw her initial intake photos where her face was more raw but even that had significant healing already. If you look at her pics you can see the white scar lines that show these injuries are a least a few weeks old. Think about that. We got her as a 9 week old pup and she had already had at least a third of her life with injuries. (We knew she had the face injury possible skull fractures and a broken rear leg. With the leg being so badly broken and the injury being old and calcifying already we thought for sure it would require amputation. We didn t mind as long as she got some relief as she came to us without having any pain control. We were trying to schedule the amputation and discussing how her ear kind of sort of fused (not the best medical term but that s the only word we can think of) to her head as the skin pulled in all directions to heal this old gash. It is causing her ears to keep wax and dirt built up in there as she is unable to clean it. Just in case... I thought... before we schedule this amputation let s send the radiographs off to Wellborn Road Veterinary Medical Center. When we thought for sure Lincoln (goldendoodle pup) would require amputation orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nieuwoudt told us could absolutely save the leg no problem . It couldn t hurt right Well.. as you can guess by this way too long status once again Dr. Nieuwoudt called me immediately and said April please let me help I can definitely save this girl s leg. I may or may not have cackled like a hyena I was so happy He told us to get her up there ASAP and we did just that. After examination he said that she ALSO had her front leg broken on both the radius and the ulna. Good news (relatively speaking) is that they both managed to heal on their own and in a perfectly straight line (another indication that these injuries are old). Her head front leg and back leg all on the same side certainly sound like it s more than just falling out of the back of a truck but I digress...Do you think we can make this again way too long update any better Hold on to your knickers. Not only is Merida playing being silly and loving life with her foster brother but she seems happy with people. Truly happy . She loves car rides surprisingly ) Not good enough for ya Okay icing on the way too tall cake we got a phone call that our fabulous supporters Vickie & Kyle Haines just donated 1000 to cover her ENTIRE leg surgery. Can you believe it What angels they are (Leave some kind words below )So Merida is scheduled with Dr. Nieuwoudt bright and early Monday morning where she will either get pins plates or a combination of the two. We are so grateful that he is helping our girl so she can live a long happy and 4-legged life We promise to keep you updated. )April... More Info
