Estelle came to Safe Harbor from an extreme neglect situation with 54 horses on four acres. She was starved to the verge of death and during her intake vetting we also discovered that Estelle had EPM--a protozoa that affects nerves muscle and neurological. Estelle surely would have died without rapid intervention. 3 000 in medical treatments later Estelle is showing no signs of EPM but has a year plus recovery in front of her. It will be unknown for a some time if Estelle will be a ride-able horse or a loving pasture pet. Either way we know that she was worth every ounce of effort put towards saving her. Estelle is fairly timid around people. An ideal situation for her will be a pet type home where she can be the only horse and bond closely with her people. If she is given the choice of other horses or people for companionship she will choose horses--so for at least the short-term a 1 1 horse human relationship is needed for her either in a foster or forever setting....
