Seven-year old Sammy was living in dire conditions in early November when a shopper spotted him-bedraggled and emaciated-scavenging for food in the trash behind a shopping center in Los Gatos. She contacted a cat rescuer who was able to entice the starving but guarded cat to walk right into a carrier. There s no question that November 1 was Sammy s lucky day. At just 5 lbs covered in fleas suffering from anemia and an upper respiratory infection he surely would not have survived the cold stormy weather that hit the bay area days later. His rescuer said it was as if he knew he was going home. Sammy s micro chip identified his owner but after multiple unsuccessful attempts to reach him it became clear that poor Sammy had nowhere to call home. After a couple of weeks of steady improvement Sammy was transferred to a foster home where he continued to thrive and learned to trust again.
