Applicants who have already completed and passed testing are NOT required to test again.Job Goals Responsible for creating and updating safe and efficient bus stops and routes preparing route descriptions for Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors coordinating daily changes in routes resolving issues with parents teachers building administrators and Transportation employees and directing drivers using a two-way radio. May be required to drive bus routes as needed.Essential Job Functions 1. Evaluate bus stop locations incorporate stops into routes and communicate route information to patrons and school officials using the telephone interschool mail E-mail Intranet and faxes Re-evaluate routing continuously to maintain optimal efficiency. 2. Create safe and detailed bus routes for school bus drivers to follow using the transportation routing software program. Create revise and distribute master route schedules bus schedules route descriptions and route maps to Bus Drivers dispatch staff and other District personnel. 3. Coordinate daily changes in routes. Advise and direct Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors using a two-way radio. 4. Respond to scheduling dispatch-related complaints and concerns from parents school staff and Transportation employees by answering telephone calls and responding to messages.. 5. Assist with employee training on safety and problem solving by presenting issues during in-service meetings training classes and individual reviews. 6. Attend department and or office staff meetings. 7. Maintain current knowledge of scheduling dispatch issues by attending conferences or trainings. 8. May operate school bus over established route as needed. 9. Perform other duties as assigned.Technical Skills Knowledge and Abilities 1. Oral and written communication skills. 2. English language skills. 3. Critical thinking and problem solving skills. 4. Knowledge of city and county road networks and location of schools in the district preferred. 5. Knowledge of Colorado and Federal laws as they relate to the transportation of students. 6. Knowledge of student transportation scheduling and laws. 7. Knowledge of driving a bus and student management. 8. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. 9. Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies Superintendent policies and building and department procedures. 10. Ability to communicate interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. 11. Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace follow safety rules practice safe work habits utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.Materials and Equipment Operating Knowledge 1. Operating knowledge of school buses and pool vehicles. 2. Operating knowledge of maintenance and emergency equipment including radio tire chains flare etc. 3. Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals. 4. Operating knowledge of and experience with office software. 5. Operating knowledge of route scheduling software system preferred. 6. Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment such as telephones copier fax machine E-mail etc.Salary Transportation Route Specialists are a Grade 8 on the Classified Salary Schedule. - FFC8 allows new hires to bring in up to 8 years of previous experience in similar school type settings. - Please understand that new hires tend to start out at the lower end of the salary range.Salary ScheduleEmployment Period 261 days per year - 8 Hour Work Day
