Truffles who came to us as a stray is a cute young cat who like many Torbies has a quirky sometimes feisty personality. She s going to need some extra time and patience as she settles into a new home and develops trust. We think she may have been mishandled before coming to us as she seems to have an aversion to hands or objects (including toys) coming directly toward her. She has displayed both her behavioral extremes since she arrived--hissing and scratching at hands objects coming toward her AND settling into a lap for a long petting session with purrs. Because of her current unpredictable nature however we believe she will do best with cat savvy adults (of any age) and children (aged 12 and above)who will be able to read her signals and willing to take the time to help her gain a much-needed sense of security.She should be an indoor-only cat to protect her from predators and all the other things that go bump in the night. Because Truffles was a stray and on her own she may want to return to the great outdoors. Family members will need to be careful when opening doors and windows. A good compromise might be a cat ledge or cat tree that allows her to LOOK outdoors without the dangers of actually BEING outdoors The understanding and kind consistent treatment you show Truffles now will do much to determine her sense of security and is likely to modify some of her less charming behavior.
