Dodger - Male Boxer

Fascinating Dodger (no affiliation with a certain LA based MLB team) is a very special guy he is deaf. And if that s not enough to melt your heart he is also blind in his left eye. Dodger s family can no longer care for him so he s looking for a new family as fascinating and special as he is. Dodger loves people and approaches everyone he meets in a friendly manner seeking affection in the form of petting. He loves to chase a ball but please remember it s important to throw it so he can see the toss with his sighted right eye.Dodger s new family will need to keep him safe always and use positive reinforcement training to help him be the best dog he can be. Much has been written about caring for deaf dogs. They certainly make amazing pets bonding quickly with their people as they are forced to pay close attention. They are not harder to train just different because they need to learn to respond to hand signals. In fact living with a deaf dog will make you a far better dog guardian as you will be forced to pay attention too Dodger needs someone familiar with the Boxer breed and someone who is strong enough to handle this five year old energetic 68 pound guy Even though Dodger likes to be petted and can be leashed and harnessed easily he does not like to be held tightly. His veterinarian will want to know about this so please remember to give them a heads up.Dodger really likes food which is great for positive reinforcement training. Just remember that if you approach him while he has a high value treat or chew and you re on his blind side he might be startled and try to protect his treasure. Wouldn t you Dodger needs to be able to see that you are coming He s much more amenable when he knows what s going on. Because Dodger s physical limitations require extra thought and care we recommend he be in an adults only household. It s an awful lot to ask of youngsters when all they and the dog want to do is play. While Dodger was here he met several dogs of various sizes. He was interested in them but he lacks the social skills required to interact safely for both him and the other dog. No dog parks please The most important thing for Dodger now is that we find him a family who will love him and understand his needs someone who will hear for him and help him see the world through his good eye. This beautiful soul has earned his spot in the Deaf Dog Hall of Fame. Are you his attentive and loving fan Primary Color White Weight 64.8 Age 5yrs 1mths 0wks... More Info
