This is Mya. Until she came to the SPCA she had led a harder life than such a sweet dog deserves. As a result we are looking for a home that will commit to spending lots of time with her. She needs a calm and consistent situation to thrive. While she looks like a Retriever she is an Akbash X which has a different temperament. Akbash Dogs are livestock protectors who are independent. They are not herding dogs as often is thought they are low energy contemplative dogs. Playing fetch or ball is not really their thing. She is not a kid s companion pet. As they will take on predators it is best if there is more than one dog of a similar breed if they are to be used for watching a herd. Otherwise Mya would be better as an only dog in an adult home. Mya really enjoys just hanging out with her people and loves to be petted. If you spend lots time on a computer or at a hobby she likes to lay at your feet. Before coming to the shelter Mya was not let indoors she is really enjoying the change. Her experiences as an outside only dog were not good so we rather she not go back to that life.
