Mr. Bird and his cockatoo friend Gracie (aka Grayson) were transferred from HSPPR to TGF after their owner abandoned them. Both birds were in rough shape and Mr. Bird has a history of feather destructive and self mutilation behaviors that are evidenced by a large wound on his chest. Mr. Bird is good with people but wasn t always best behaved with his friend Grayson who found a home of his own. Mr. Bird is curious and behaves cautiously when his cage is approached suddenly or by strangers. He adores treats given or shared with him and targets to a syringe when he needs meds or supplements. His environment is enriched with many items to shred and destroy which he does quickly and with cockatoo gusto. Mr. Bird requires daily misting and a soaking bath 2x week. He has a history of self mutilation and monitoring his wound requires careful observation and timing so that this particular behavior is not encouraged reinforced. Mr. Bird has become a fan of outreach events and he will gladly demonstrate Moluccan vocalizations and show off to a group.An ideal home for Mr. Bird will include a very large cage a safe and guarded outdoor play area plenty of room to walkabout hop and climb. It s critical to keep Mr. Bird occupied and stimulated by daily activities. Working to learn basic training behaviors such as the wave wings up turnaround and the whiffle ball or toy toss are activities he likes to do repeatedly.
