Snoopy Goofy and Ratchet were transferred to TGF on October 16 2013 from Greenwood Wildlfe Rehabilitation -X -.-----XX.-. Each of these birds had been someone s pet once upon a time. There are two domesticated species which are quite often kept as pets and available from pet stores. These doves are called the Ringneck Dove (Streptopelia risoria) and the Diamond Dove (Geopelia cuneata). They do quite well in pet bird sized cages and are often kept in pairs. The classic White Dove is actually a variety of the Ringneck dove and is not its own species. Beyond these two domestic species there are over 300 other species of doves in the world as well which are generally called exotic or wild species. Ringneck doves are lovely avian companions and have a large fan club worldwide. Their soft call and natural foraging behaviors make them a pleasure to watch and train.
