Elsa and Anna must be adopted out together. They are very nice parakeets but have never been handled. They will need some time and patience before they come around. Temperament Parakeets frequently use their voice to sing whistle and chatter. They need to be interacted with daily to maintain sociability. Parakeets are delicate--Please show children how to handle gently.Diet High quality parakeet pellet seed mix such as Lafebers Zupreem or Pretty Bird. Small amounts of veggies fruits and fresh water daily. Millet spray makes a great treat.Habitat Provide a large square cage with a variety of different sizes and surfaces. Place perches at multiple levels. Parakeets also LOVE swings. Clean cages once per week to prevent illness and disease. Recommend black and white newspaper at the bottom to catch droppings and change daily.Mouth Teeth Beaks are generally maintained if a bird has access to wooden perches or mineral blocks.Skin Coat Flight feathers have not been trimmed. Feather trimming should be done every 6-8 weeks by a vet to prevent escape and injury. Offer a shallow dish of water for bathing or gently mist with water.Additional Info Please provide plenty of toys for play and stimulation (Parakeets LOVE mirrors ) and rotate on a regular basis. Be sure to bird proof your home such as covering exposed wires keeping windows shut and toilet seats down. Never use aerosols scented candles or perfumes near your bird. Do not take your bird into the kitchen while cooking Teflon fumes can be fatal. Parakeets can live up to 12 years Please be sure that you have the time patience and love to make a lifetime commitment to your bird. Exam Recommend finding and avian vet in your area in case of emergencies and for routine care. Recommend purchasing books and magazines on bird care. DO NOT ENCOURAGE BREEDING. If an egg is laid take it away. If you notice her struggling to lay an egg or if she continues to lay egg after egg take to the vet immediately.
