Peanut - Male BeagleHound (Unknown Type) Mix

Peanut - Beagle maybe mixed with hound - male neutered - adult - 6 years of age - 35 pounds - brown tan and white short coat This wonderful dog has captured the hearts of everyone who has met him and the hearts of many people throughout the country who never met him but were cheering him on. Peanut is a remarkable fellow and his story in rescue is equally remarkable. We first learned of Peanut s need shortly before Christmas. He was in a rural South Carolina shelter and due to his condition devoted humane workers there felt that Peanut would need special help if he were to make it out. They had no concerns about his ability to charm and endear - he had them all wrapped around his little paw from the get-go.They launched quite a campaign on his behalf and a Hedgesville Hounds volunteer shared his story with us. One of our foster care providers immediately stepped up to foster him and an effort was then mounted to bring Peanut - whose name at that time was Chad - up north. Our organization offers heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful people who pitched in to help with Peanut s transport and the caring people all over the country who pledged funds to cover his transport expenses and vetting costs. We also thank the dedicated shelter workers in South Carolina who cared for Peanut diagnosed his medical needs recognized his greatness and even dressed him in a Christmas elf suit and sent his photo everywhere which definitely was a stroke of compassionate and expedient genius.Once in care Peanut trotted right into his foster home with all the kindness and friendly honesty that characterize this dog.Resident cats dogs and people were immediately besotted. Peanut cuddled and snuggled and revealed that even the prospect of being petted can cause him to roll straight onto his back. Peanut is such a happy and trusting guy that he could make himself comfortable anywhere but he does appreciate a soft warm bed. He has mastered the commands come and sit and he is abjectly grateful for every particle of love and attention he receives and for every mouthful of food.Peanut has been a brave soul and has been successfully treated for heart worm disease Lyme disease and Erlichia. He is now on preventives so he will never again be afflicted with these preventable illnesses and he is a playful healthy curious dog who fancies himself quite the explorer so we would very much like to see him go to a home with a securely fenced yard or to adopters who could commit to long daily walks. Preferably both.Physically Peanut is a beautiful dog. He has a long slim body and slender legs and a snowy face. His large somewhat slanted eyes are very arresting and his eye contact is full direct open and soft. His foster dad wrote this about Peanut Peanut put up a bravely fought battle with heart worm treatment and won that battle. He has emerged from that ordeal as a happy and loving veteran. His ability to respond positively to learning new behavior skills has been amazing. It has been a sheer joy and pleasure to witness. I am sure that his new forever home will be a very rewarding experience for him and his new caregivers. Peanut has been a dear and trusting soul a stoic patient and an all-around great dog in every way. In fact he has in his own small way brought together entire communities of people in concerted effort to save a small snowy-faced Beagle dressed in a green elf suit. We all feel privileged to have been part of his story. His next journey will be the one that takes him home and his committed adopter(s) will in our opinion be very lucky people indeed. If you are interested in any of our rescues please fill out our non-binding application to send a non-binding application...
