Malvina is between 2-3yrs and stands 59cm tall. She is thought to be a mix of Rotti and Boxer but moreso the Rotti. Malvina was abandoned at the shelter with her newborn puppies in October 2015. Once she recovered from her pregnancy she was blood tested (as are all dogs taken in) and found to be a low positive for Leishmaniasis (common for many dogs living in a Mediterrean country). Her titer was not too high at 1 200 so she finished her daily-for-28 days injections of Glucantine and will need to take a daily dose of Allopurinol indefinitely as this is the medication that keeps the disease dormant. She currently takes 3 pills per day (1.5 in the morning & 1.5 in the evening) so a bottle of 500 - 300mg pills costs about 120 and will cover her for about 6 months. It s available at your local pharmacy with a prescription from your vet. The daily dosage will need to be adjusted for any change in weight of 5lbs or more. For the first year she will need to have her blood tested at 6 month intervals and annually thereafter (which all dogs should have as part of their routine health checks). Malvina is described as a great dog getting along with both male and female dogs. Malvina needs to be retested again and also spayed before being adopted so she won t be available until the end of March but we will accept adoption applications in the meantime. Lastly Malvina needs to receive her meals separate from any other pets in the home she s ok sharing treats with other dogs around but her meals need to be private. So we realise when a dog has an ongoing health issue such as diabetes a thyroid condition or Leish that they already have a strike against them for chance of being adopted but they still deserve a loving home.
