Clyde. Clydesdale. Clydis. Clydapus. We have so many names for him. In the game of Life we would keep him and keep pouring our hearts into him. But in reality we know we need to make him available for adoption. This will be the hardest one yet. We ve all fallen so hard for this guy but due to kids with medical issues it s really best to only have one resident dog and one foster dog. I will do my best to describe Clyde.... He s a great big oaf. He s the biggest Labrador I ve ever seen. Hence the name Clydesdale. He will follow you and then stand and wait for your next move. He looks like he s waiting for a bus with his big droopey eyes and ears. He doesn t realize that he s in the way. Even a nudge doesn t send him the message. So we call him our kitchen speed bump. He loves the tennis ball. He will retrieve it as long as you re willing to throw it. Watching him retrieve is quite comical. He leaps on the ball and it s a surprise every time the ball rolls from beneath him. He s just a big floppy mess as he tries to catch it. He always returns the ball and drops it right at your feet. He s discovered the couch is a nice place to be. So when chores are happening that s where he likes to be. Chores do not interest Clyde. However if any food prep is going on he is on guard. I like to think of it as letting me know I m his favorite person. While at the dinner table Clyde likes to watch the way food moves. Most of the time his head is on the table just waiting for an invitation for a taste taste. He won t steal food but he s very curious about it. We find it far to entertaining to teach him better manners. His face and expressions are more than we can handle. He s made meal time quite fun. Clyde really likes having a foster brother and I think he would really like to have a fur brother in his forever home. We had a female foster and he didn t connect with her the way he did to a brother. I know that probably sounds crazy but I think his perfect pack would include a male dog and some humans. Clyde and Moose patrol the yard and the neighbor s yard for birds squirrels and other critters so cats are probably a bad idea. English is new to Clyde but he has learned so much direction in two months. He s still learning but he understands so much now. Clyde loves his food so meal time is never an issue. While we think Clyde is absolutely perfect in every way there is one small condition. He has incontinence. He leaks urine without control when he s sleeping standing etc. we have him wearing a belly band and that solves the problem. There is a medicine that Clyde could take to control this condition but we prefer this method over the side effects. Clyde is most bonded to my husband. He lives for him and his every move. Because he travels Clyde has adjusting to just having the rest of us around. He spends more time with Moose while the house is quiet. But if Bill is home he s on him like glue. Clyde is crated when left alone most of the time but I have left him without problem. At night he sleeps on his bed or in bed with us. He always slept on his bed but lately he s been surprising us in bed. Clyde has lifted his leg in the house 3X in the 3 months he has been with us. I m pretty sure he has it now but that is something that could be part of his adjustment period. He was a stud dog all his life. He lived on a Mennonite farm I m told it was the most deplorable conditions. So being a pet is still relatively new for him. It s been awhile since we ve had a leg lifting issue so maybe that s the end of that. Clyde s best life would be with a person or family that will love him until the end of his days. Throw a ball take a walk occasional car rides and always snuggling at the end of the day. To find amusement in everything he does and love him as much as we have. He is the greatest dog.
