Katie s had one home her entire life until she was sent to TGF. She was one chick of her breeder bird parents that were owned and cared for by the owner of a bird specialty store in the Bay Area. Katie had a good life with her owners. She had time outside 2 huge cages including a large aviary style cage and veterinary care provided by one of the most renown avian veterinarians in the US. As time went by the owners lives changed and their wonderful bird started feather destructive behavior which led to self mutilation and then to prolapse. After many years of care for her the owners made the decision that Katie s future would be better assured in a new environment and their decision was to part with her.Katie made the flight from SFO to DEN with ease and once at the aviary we were able to settle her in. She s interactive very friendly petite and readily steps up to others. She has cute bright pink leg wraps that are dutifully applied like little leg warmers every day to the areas that she picks over preens. She has a couple of areas on top of her wings that she s picked on in the past and a small wound under her L. wing. She was comfortable while we applied some topical mediation to keep the area clean and moisturized. In the past she s had one cloacapexy due to a prolapse and she s also had some prophylactic grooming performed on her upper and lower beak to keep it from overgrowing. The original injury is possible due to hand feeding when we was a chick. She s outgoing and social and at first glance none of these disabilities seem to diminish her charming and delightful personality. We hope to find her a home a cockatoo girlfriend and meanwhile take her to outreach events to give her a job to enjoy with her favorite pet - humans.
