Bonnie - Female Cymric

Bonnie is a sweet affectionate cat who will make a great companion for someone who is prepared to provide her with the special care that she needs. Bonnie is quite the extrovert and a real cuddle bug. She loves spending the day with her people and gets sad when she s left alone for long periods. She enjoys hanging out with her people and follows them around wherever they go. She loves to play on her scratching post and she likes to sit on the couch and watch TV. She is playful for short periods but then likes to lounge & nap.Bonnie is listed as a special-needs cat because she has a condition called Megacolon a condition where the motility in the colon is poor making the pet prone to constipation. Bonnie was predisposed to this condition at birth by being born as Manx Cyrmic breed cat. Although Megacolon is a condition that will affect Bonnie for the rest of her life she is being managed well with a diet specifically designed for Megacolon and on daily medications. As long as Bonnie s new family is strictly dedicated to keeping her on her special diet and making sure she gets her daily medication Bonnie should do very well. However she will undoubtedly have episodes of constipation on occasion so her family will need to be prepared for vet visits when this happens. Bonnie has a wonderful vet that has been caring for her for years and is very familiar with her condition. She s been doing very well under her vet s care.The biggest challenge to finding a great home for Bonnie is that she s fecally incontinent which means that her poops are not always in the litterbox. She does recognize when she has to poop and she goes into the litterbox but sometimes she ends up with tiny nuggets of feces that drop after she s used her box. We often find these nuggets in her bed or on the floor. Since Bonnie s poops are very hard & dry the nuggets don t make a mess and are very easy to pick up (essentially no clean-up required) but most people are not comfortable with a cat whose deposits are not 100% confined to the litter box.Bonnie is a long-haired cat and needs to be brushed regularly to prevent matting. If she does not have any mats she accepts brushing and actually seems to like it. However if she does get matted she dislikes being brushed because it s hard on her sensitive skin. We used to shave her down and keep her hair short to prevent hairballs but it caused rashes on her skin so we must allow her hair to grow long now. She receives daily brushing and omega fatty acids (in her food) to keep her coat soft and shiny.Although Bonnie could care less about other animals (she s not stressed about dogs or other cats as long as they leave her alone) it would be best if she was in a home as an only pet. The biggest challenge to having her around other animals is that she must eat her food & only her food. If she were to find a few kibbles of another pet s food and eat it she could get very sick. It would be OK for Bonnie to be in a home with other calm animals as long as her diet and litterbox use can be very strictly monitored. Bonnie must be a strictly indoor-only cat.Our foster-to-adopt program is a requirement for Bonnie to make sure her needs fit within your lifestyle.
