This sweet guy was brought into AAE on January 24 2014 after he and his companion were abandoned by their owner and found by a family member (and prior owner) that reached out to AAE for assistance. Not only was Magic in poor condition the family stated he had several sores all over his body including a ruptured hernia that had been untreated for at least three (3) years. During AAE s initial evaluation there were three obviously neglected sores including a thick oozing growth on his ear (about the diameter of a quarter) a large dangling and oozy growth on his abdomen under his flank (about the size and shape of a large ginger root) and a painful looking growth on his sheath (about the size of a half-dollar). Upon vet exam numerous additional growths were found under his skin in and around his flank abdomen and sheath areas. Blood was drawn and the growths were sampled for biopsy. Magic s blood results were generally good everything was within normal range other than being a bit anemic. Not unusual considering his condition. Magic s biopsy results indicated the growth on his sheath was a squamous cell carcinoma and the others on his flank abdominal areas and ear were sarcoids. The three worst lesions needed to be removed then treated with a chemo agent to reduce the risk of recurrence.Once Magic had gained a little weight and settled in about 16 growths were removed including the tip of his ear. In general Magic recovered very well from surgery and he rebounded from the scrawny sickly boy he was. He s looking very healthy and feeling good. One sarcoid has recurred in his inguinal area and he will undergo further treatment soon.Magic has a ton of personality and he is gaining confidence by the day. He has a very willing spirit and he s a ton of fun to work with. He will make a very fun project horse for an experienced handler rider trainer. Additionally Magic s person should know he may be prone to more sarcoids and he she should consider potential future treatment costs prior to adoption.
