The dogs pictured (when they were 8 week old puppies) are the mother and father of 8 beautiful puppies that will be ready for Christmas (The last picture is them full grown tending our sheep) They are a Maremma and Border Collie cross. They are both 1 4 Border Collie and 3 4 Maremma. The Maremma is a friendly and well-balanced livestock guardian. The breed is described as loyal brave and determined. They make an excellent guard and livestock guardian dog without being a constant barker. They are affectionate but not dependent. They are great with people and animals but will fend off any predatorial threats. The Border Collie breed is very intelligent and aware of its surroundings. They are very friendly with people but are very much aware of their responsibilties to protect.Our dogs do not however have the natural herding instinct that Border Collies normally do which makes them perfect for being with live stock and ensures they won t be chasing them around. Both breeds require lots of exercise and room to live out their lives as they were meant to. They are outside dogs and well able to live in the sub-zero tempertaures of Alberta winters. We have kept ours outside entirely and provided them with dog houses that are insulated. We have sheep which are dogs are very good with and have done an excellent job of keeping away the coyotes. As you can see by the pictures they are beautiful animals
