Pogo first came to TGF s attention in 2000. He d been placed in a few homes and was relinquished to us along with another conure Grover from the same owner in 2005. Pogo s been with TGF for nearly a decade and his best friend Grover passed away in 2008. Pogo feather picked before he came to us. He was relinquished because his owner said he was loud aggressive and screamed when the owner left the room. That s a familiar complaint that we receive from Aratinga conure owners - the birds DO have loud vocalizations and just because they re living in a home the bird doesn t change its sound unless the owner is willing to embark with training using the most positive least intrusive methods of achieving this goal. Blaming the bird for behaving like a bird is a Catch 22 and unless owner is prepared to learn how to redirect that behavior the bird generally pays the price and loses its home.
