Courtesy listing Please contact Becky at --XX(at)----X to inquire on Smokey Meet Mr. Smokey He was found as a stray by Redlands Animal Control. His owner was contacted but could not be bothered to come get him out of the shelter. He came in underfed and matted but despite the obvious neglect he experienced he remains an affectionate social gentle very well-mannered young guy. He does fabulous with other dogs all people and even met a few cats and chickens without incident. He is about 2 years old with nice white teeth. His breed combination is a mystery- he has the body intelligence and personality of a poodle the hair of a Yorkie or a Silky Terrier and the face of a wire haired dashchund. He is about 15 pounds but came to me underfed so he could stand to gain about 5 pounds. He does not appear to shed and has thin silky hair. I have fostered a couple dozen dogs over the years and I have to admit that Smokey is probably about one of the most trainable intelligent that I have come across. Despite being kept entirely outside at his last home (his owner didn t even realize he was gone for 2 days) Smokey housetrained without a single accident. He is not a marker he squats to go potty. He learned sit within the first couple hours of being here. We are currently working on commands such as bed go potty come and stay. He is also learning basic house manners such as not jumping on up people when excited and not getting in the trash. He is a very fast learner and is eager to please. He crate trained easily and slept all night in his crate from day one. He learned to heel on leash with his first walk with some gentle corrections. He has such potential for a person looking to really have a dynamic companion dog that can learn the skills required to go everywhere with you in all environments. He really is quite a find.One thing Smokey does NOT like is to be thrown outside in a yard and ignored like he was in his previous life. This is a dog that needs to be immersed in his family. He is extremely social and really enjoys other dogs and people. He is fine staying out in the yard for a few hours with dog friends. He does not bark excessively but will bark when people pass or when other dogs are barking. He will need to be trained with a gentle hand as I do think that he was not treated very kindly before and will retreat from a training session if you raise your voice or come across too harshly.Smokey s adoption fee is 200. Interested families will need to complete an adoption application and meet n greet first with all current family dogs present. I always do a 2 week trial adoption period where you can take the dog home to see how everyone likes each other. If it doesn t work out for any reason Smokey comes back no problem and your check never gets cashed. Smokey is being fostered with me in the Redlands area but I am willing to drive up to an hour or so to meet with interested families. He is neutered microchipped and current on vaccines including rabies.
