Vey rare breed in USA the Spanish mastiff is widely used in Europe as a livestock guardian and is generally considered the largest of the LGD. The Espanol can be a wonderful family pet. They are by nature somewhat aloof but very loyal and loving to family. A true watch dog but can be very gentle with children. Very intelegent and easily house trained. Long lived for a giant breed generally thought to be 10 to 14 years. The Spanish Mastiff is very athletic and as young adults desires to have an adventure walk of about an hour in length at least once a week. Later as they mature they desire this less. Ideal to take jogging or to the local park for playtime gets along well with other breeds but like many breeds are protective of their food. Great breed for an active family as their instinct is to watch over their flock so activity around them while they observe is wonderful enviroment for them. A large loose skinned Large he and heavy boned with a medium coat also known as Mastin Espanol is quite Majestic and impressive in appearance. They are always watchful and alert to everything that goes on around them.
