Hospice Volunteer Position - Price: Volunteer

Gateway Hospice is in search of volunteers for our patients and families in the Pittsburgh Area. We currently have Patients in Allegheny Beaver Butler Washington and Westmoreland Counties.The duties of a direct volunteer consist of providing visits to the patient for social support maybe some light housekeeping or helping to run errands. (i.e. shopping). Our families need relief at times and the volunteer will just sit with the patient while caregivers enjoy a restful activity or get other things done. There are people who feel called to do Bedside Vigil to patients who are in the final hours of life. This is especially benefitial to patients who have no family members to sit with them. Some volunteers have an interest in pet therapy and visit patients to provide support and enjoyment from their pets. Other volunteers are message or reiki therapists. Some enjoy praying or reading to patients. Utilizing your talents for others is great but if you just want to help and bring yourself that is terrific too Your presence can offer support that people need If patient visits are not for you we also have in-direct volunteers who help the hospice by working in the office assisting with mailings or making phone calls. Volunteers must meet some of the same requirements as employees such as a training a background check and a TB test.
