We asked the vet to treat her as if she had Demodex mange (weekly injections of Dectomax) and it worked Her hair is almost all the way back in and she looks and feels great Temperament Sweet and submissive with people gets along great with other dogs but can be dominant with another dominant dogIntake reason Cabbage Patch was just a shell of a little dog when we met her at Bossier City Animal Control back in July 2016. (See link to album of when we first took her in -XX -.--XX.- 404655349560883 photos tab album& album_id 1417151714977903) She was missing much of her hair and she was miserable with the itching. After a visit to the vet and several skin scrapings they found no mange however we decided to treat her as if she had mange with weekly injections of Dectomax and it worked. She just had her 6th injection and is now ready for adoption. Her hair has grown in nicely and it s almost filled all the way in. She may need to be managed for any recurrence even though no mange mites were found. If she indeed has Demodex mange there is no cure it just has to be managed. Stress cause the mange to recur and most dogs never have a recurrence once treated but it s a possibility. Discuss with your vet if you have any concerns or questions about adopting a dog with suspected Demodex mange. We say suspected because as we said before no mites were ever found but the injections for Demodex mange worked on her. Since Cabbage Patch has been with us for a while... we do know quite a bit about her. Fun facts 1. Cabbage Patch loves the water. She d love if her adopter had a pool for her to take some swims. (Remember you ll have to supervise her.)2. Cabbage Patch loves toys and plays fetch. She ll bring it back sometimes. LOL 3. She would be easily housetrained because she does not make a mess when we are not there.4. She s also kenneled trained and does not make a mess in her kennel either.5. She WILL destroy a bed. She s so impressed with herself when she murders a bed. She will need to be kenneled when you are not at home to avoid any murdered beds or pillows in your home.6. She s a great watch dog. She will bark at strangers and may even bark at you if you come to meet her... but she quickly warms up.7. She s eager to please and food motivated for training.8. Like most Dachshunds she wants to be the boss so she d do great as an only dog or with a bigger submissive male dog. IMPORTANT NOTES All of our adoptable dogs are small and they are never to be left outside alone ever We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family We do allow adopters with doggie doors provided there is SECURE fencing. There is no exception to this rule NO SMALL CHILDREN As with almost all the dogs at NR2R young children or a very active household is not recommended. Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children. Even if the children are older it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents. We do not guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained it doesn t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time patience and consistency. We do not guarantee the age health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do many times the histories are inaccurate. Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home you will receive in return many years of love companionship and loyalty. That s our guarantee.
