These lovely birds are native to the bush savannah farmlands and woodlans of southern and eastern Africa.Their name comes from the black patch of feathers on the nape (back) of their neck. They flock near water and drink mainly in the morning. They have two different calls that are most often heard. They like to forage on the ground so it s important to place a food dish on the ground. We feed finely chopped greens and some grated vegetables and Prince Harry and the other doves like this fresh food. We also provide millet sprigs and it s entertaining to watch it be pulled around as a special treat. Harry is comfortable being handled by people respectful and comfortable with him.
