STAN - Male German Shepherd Dog Mix

Hi Thanks for giving me some attention I d like you to know that I ve already been spayed or neutered. At Animal Friends dogs and cats also leave fully up-to-date on shots and microchipped. All I need now is to find someone who will love me. Please ask to meet with an adoption counselor so we can be properly introduced and talk about what kind of pet you re looking for. We can discuss whether you re looking for a lap pet or a social butterfly an only pet or a furry sibling for kids or other animals. Best of all by adopting from Animal Friends you make it possible for them to rescue and care for another pet who truly needs help. So what are you waiting for Let s sit down together This stunningly handsome boy is Stan who came to Animal Friends from a hoarding situation in September of 2015. The dog warden rescued Stan with his mom and other siblings who were all living in squalid conditions. Stan had never been socialized with people as a puppy and unfortunately had not been exposed to indoor living. Therefore Stan is initially very fearful of new people noises and surroundings. Because of this Stan needs to go to a home with only adults and with no other animals. It took over six months of dedicated and patient work from staff and volunteers to win Stan over and teach him how to trust. Even with those he knows Stan is still very nervous and timid. He needs an extremely patient and understanding owner who is willing to put in the time and effort needed for Stan to come out of his shell. Unlike some of the other dogs he came in with Stan is confident in himself and so when afraid he barks at whatever it is that is scaring him instead of hiding. This can be intimidating but is manageable.Probably due to his previous living situation Stan guards his food and toys. He will trade for toys which is a great step but gets very uncomfortable with people when he is eating. Stan will most likely never be a dog who tolerates parties or group gatherings and because he has lived most of his life outside he lacks a lot of skills that you and I might assume a dog should know. Patience and consistency will be key to his success in a home This handsome boy deserves a loving forever home and has waiting a long time to be ready for one If you think Stan might be a good fit for you please stop by Animal Friends today to talk to an Adoption Counselor about meeting him To learn more about Animal Friends or view adoptable dogs cats and rabbits visit www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org.
