SEXTANT and CASE - Nautical - 1950s Hezzanith Heath - ENGLAND

I am offering an original (not a reproduction) mid-1900s English Sextant. Navigational devices of this type were used to determine a ship s position (latitude and longitude) from the observation of the heavenly bodies. Based on the design materials used and serial number it was likely built in the 1950s. This popular three-ring unit has -5 to 125 brass scale stamped as follows 73243 MADE IN ENGLAND HEATH NAVIGATIONAL Ltd. LONDON. S.E. 9. The unit is housed in its original 11 x 10 x 5 mahogany veneer case along with the Case Key and End Wrench. The manufacturer s tag is mounted on the radius arm which reads HEZZANITH ENDLESS RAPID READER AUTOMATIC CLAMP --PATENT-- and has these words (around each rivet) SEMPER (Always) PARATUS (Ready) which is the U.S. Coast Guard s motto. The overall condition is good considering its advanced age but the wood case does has the typical chips primarily on the corners. This nautical artifact is the perfect example of British maritime history. Additional Nautical Items Available - Please Call Cliff (at) 760-809-5720 For More Information.
