Job Requirements DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for ensuring all signal engineering which includes but is not limited to signal circuit plans vital and non-vital software for signal interlocking plants centralized traffic control points and highway crossing systems are in compliance with all Federal State and local regulations as they apply to signaling practices as well as all BNSF standards policies and practices. Develop and use formal quality assurance procedures. Provide feedback to and measurement of our contract signal engineering firms and others in our organization. Develop and recommend engineering standard practices and polices to enhance systems safety. Provide technical assistance and support to field technicians managers and supervisors regarding the installation maintenance and testing of these systems. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED plus 2-3 years of formal technical training. Requires a demonstrable expert level knowledge of signal interlocking circuits centralized traffic control systems automatic block signal systems highway crossing systems and general signal engineering principles and practices. A minimum of 5 years experience in design construction and maintenance of railroad wayside signal systems. Must be very detailed and process oriented with the analytical ability sufficient to detect and rectify complex system malfunctions. Must have expert knowledge in the application of electromechanical systems electronics microprocessor based instrument industrial control systems and railroad control system data protocols. Must have the ability to accurately communicate all technical issues to our outside signal engineering contractors and others in our organization. Applicants will be required to successfully pass a practical written exam. Must have expert knowledge of the General Code of Operating Rules and FRA rules regulations applicable to these systems. Must be able to work effectively and efficiently with all levels of BNSF management and personnel as a team dedicated to fulfilling corporate goals. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Electronics Engineering or equivalent. RELOCATION Relocation may be offered based on business need. TRAVEL As necessary ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Federal authority requires BNSF employees whose work requires unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities to obtain a TWIC. A TWIC is a condition of employment for such positions and requires candidates to those positions to submit to a TSA security assessment (to include but not limited to providing biographic information identity documents fingerprints digital photograph).
