Tradesmen - Plumbers, Carpenters

Lehigh County Authority has openings for Tradesmen (Plumbers and Carpenters) to join the Authority s Distribution and Collections team. The Plumber will maintain construct and repair water distribution and sanitary sewer lines. The Carpenter performs a combination of masonry and carpentry work to construct maintain and or repair Water Distribution Sanitary and Storm sewer systems. These positions require skilled candidates with hands-on experience in their related craft. Please note these roles will require a valid PA driver s license with CDL Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement. The Tradesmen must also obtain Class E water distribution license and or Collection system license as required upon appointment. This role may require a 24 hour 7 day a week standby service for at least one week out of the year. Essential functions include Works from maps established routines and specific instructions on service and main repair projects. Provide quality and effective customer service with courtesy and understanding to our customers citizens and internal departments. Operates a variety of general and special purpose trucks. Locates water sewer lines when required. Directs crew (s) performing various repair and maintenance tasks. Maintains equipment tools supplies and repair records Reports problems to higher classification or supervisor Performs related work as may be required. Additional position-specific tasks Plumber - -Operates a variety of specialized tools and instruments related to the science of leak detection location - Replaces services from curb stop to corporation and installs and replaces various size corporations - Replaces sections of pipe or complete services making mechanical connections from valve to valve - Requires a wide knowledge of meter diagnostic and repair procedures and methods - Works within the guidelines of A.W.W.A. specifications - Installs removes exchanges and repairs all type of water meters - Investigates high and low consumption problems of residential commercial and industrial type meters - Issues leak notices and initiates service orders as necessary - Works with Sewer Line Maintenance as assigned Carpenter - - Operates various power tools and equipment used in the mason carpentry trades occasionally operates other sewer line maintenance and construction equipment - Plans and lays-out and executes complete masonry and concrete projects including formwork cribbing and other incidental carpentry work for proper job accomplishment - Constructs and repairs manholes storm and sanitary sewer inlets wing walls stormwater outfall structures etc. Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent (required) or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Valid PA driver s license with CDL Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement required. If not in possession of this license at time of hire must obtain license within 90 calendar days of start date in order to maintain employment in this position. Ability to obtain Class E water distribution license and or Collection system license as required upon appointment. Must be on a 24 hour 7 days a week standby service for at least one week out of the year. Knowledge of the materials methods techniques and tools commonly used in the carpentry maintenance repair and replacement of components in the Water Distribution and Sanitary Sewer systems. Ability to speak and write clearly and distinctly. Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow standard routines and practices on water and sewer line maintenance repairs and construction. Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees supervisors and the public. Ability to handle stressful situations. Ability to add and subtract whole numbers and work from maps and specific instructions.
