However there is still a bias against and discrimination directed at individuals with tattoos. Such markings are powerful influences on self-worth group identity and cultural identification. The appearance of tattoos may open or close the door on opportunities or affect the very acceptance of an individual. For example prison tattoos may engender life or death for an inmate. Tattoos may help or hinder a person pursuing a job opportunity. The powerful message of tattoos may blur ethical borders with a sense of brotherhood and belonging. The perception of tattooed individuals raises many questions. What were they thinking or What is the symbolic meaning of their tattoo Tattoos can directly impact how individuals are treated in different social circles. They are associated with a person of lower social status or a rebellious individual. To further understand the mind frame of a tattoo person my goal is to delve in the psyche of tattooed individuals.
