She was brought to the shelter when her living situation became unstable and her family was no longer able to care for her. Presently she is very overwhelmed by the sights and sounds of shelter life. Little Bit will need some time to adjust to a new living situation and gain confidence. She will do best in a quiet home with patient adults who have some experience with shy cats. It is possible that she might accept respectful older children over age 14 who can be calm and gentle around her. Shy cats like Little Bit will appreciate a small space to call their own as they become accustomed to a new environment. In addition to a litter box food and water dishes and a scratcher a cozy high-sided bed basket or box will give her a sense of safety and security. Visit her often sitting quietly as you offer soft words of comfort and reassurance. Entice her to play with a interactive wand toy to help her build confidence. Gentle grooming and petting will give her the opportunity to bond with you. Once she seems at ease and is greeting you as you enter her room allow her to gradually explore other areas of your home but do leave the way open for Little Bit to return to the comfort and security of her safe haven. It may take some time and gentle patience on your part but your efforts now will be rewarded when you experience her soft purr and affectionate head nudges as she snuggles into your lap.
