The International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) and Fire Protection Publications (FPP) are looking for a talented individual in the fire and emergency services or professional writing field to join our editorial staff as our new FPP Sr. Editor. FPP Senior Editors are responsible for writing and editing original text from drafts of new or revised fire service training manuals and working with subject matter experts to create high quality content. They also oversee the editing photography proofing and production of training manuals to which they are assigned. Manage a given document development project from drafts. Coordinate the review of draft materials with a committee of subject matter experts. Research compose and or revise original drafts for use in fire service training manuals. Select and assist in the creation of photos artwork and tables in fire service training manuals. Edit manual text for grammar spelling style organization and completion. Proof manual copy layout for grammar spelling style and formatting errors work with other departments to assist with the creation of instructional materials multimedia presentations marketing materials and newsletters as requested. Participate in formation of goals and objectives of Fire Protection Publications (FPP) as requested. Explore professional development opportunities in vocational training adult education fire service training and technical writing and editing. Represent FPP and International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) at bi-annual validation conferences as well as trade shows and other related functions as requested. Minimum qualifications Bachelor s degree in a related field as determined by the department. In addition three years of experience in a related field OR a Master s degree in a related field (as determined by the department) and one year of related experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and other pertinent computer software excellent written and communication skills and excellent time management skills. Prefer candidate with Master s degree in a related field as determined by the department or three or more years experience in Fire Service Professional Writing Technical Writing Publishing Journalism or related field. Certification in one or more of the following fire service specialties NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I II or III. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and other pertinent computer software excellent written and communication skills and excellent time management skills fire service training as a firefighter fire officer or fire instructor Vocational education in an emergency services field.
