Veterinary Radiology Technician

Perform radiography on animals of all species with compassionate and appropriate patient care. Perform CT NM and or MRI exams on patients as requested by radiologists and document the completed exams. Maintains records and perform routine quality control associated with each modality. Instruct and assist veterinary students in positioning of patients for routine special procedures and or emergency procedures. Model radiation safety and follow ALACA guidelines and university radiation safety standards and policies. Maintain stock and cleanliness of assigned room(s). Perform minor administrative duties. Complete other tasks that are assigned or become necessary. If on emergency duty must be available and on site within 20 minutes and or willing to fill in in an emergency situation. Promotional opportunities may be available through established career development plan. Employee is required to rotate with other Section technologists in maintaining holiday work schedules and emergency call schedules. Will be subject to stay after 5 00 pm sometimes to complete necessary work and to be called in occasionally for emergency radiography procedures. Emergency schedule is subject to change. In addition to occupational radiation exposure work with horses cattle and other farm animals and some dogs and cats can expose worker to physical injury such as kicks and animal bites. Rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis is recommended. Some animals are loud have a bad smell may eliminate excrement inappropriately and may otherwise be uncooperative making the work assignment more difficult. Employee may occasionally be required to clean up excrement vomit etc. Minimum qualifications Associate s Degree in Veterinary Technology. A combination of two years directly related training and or experience in veterinary technology or radiology along with certifications from American Registry of Radiologic Technologies and or Registered Veterinary Technician. Must be able to perform routine diagnostic radiography. Animal handling skills or ability willingness to learn. Must be comfortable working with animals in general. Highly desirable to feel comfortable around large animals. Assist with lifting heavy dogs up to 100-120 pounds. CT and or Nuclear Medicine experience training desired but not necessary. Will train for CT and NM duties. Will need to be able to quickly maneuver around x-ray table to position animal patients and between table and adjacent anesthetic equipment. Must be comfortable with Windows-based computer applications. Must be able to assist with lifting heavy dogs up to 120 pounds. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
