Position Summary The Foreign Language Instructor position supports the US SOCOM (U.S. Special Operations Command) Language and Regional Expertize Contract (LREC) and performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Conduct LREC specific Language and Cultural training Adhere to the approved Andragogy of teaching methodology Prepare daily or hourly lesson plans and supplemental teaching materials in support of the Program of Instruction Prepare Student Progress Reports and track Attendance Participates in the student feedback reports Follow company Chain of Command for administrative and logistical procedures Understand the Interagency Roundtable Proficiency Levels and their relation to proficiency-based instruction. Be able to ensure the Target Language Environment in the classroom Be able to ensure the learner-centered teaching approach at all times. Instructor must adapt his her teaching style and approach to a student s learning style preferences needs and motivations Be able to maintain a positive supportive and motivating classroom environment. Be able to create and conduct meaningful tasks and relevant to students teaching approach Be able to provide students supportive feedback as to how they are progressing towards meeting the lesson and course objectives. Be able to create learning activities which promote analysis negotiation of meaning synthesis and problem solving Be familiar with the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Defense Language Proficiency Tests (DLPT). Understand the students current proficiency level and continually adjust the teaching to adapt to their ability with knowledge of the next steps they need to take and how to direct them there in order to reach the course outcomes. The instructor must be able to break more difficult tasks into smaller parts in order to assist the students in achieving desired outcomes. Must act as a facilitator and guide in class activities so that the majority of class time is spent in production of the target language involving all students. The students should speak and produce the language more than the teacher. Must reflect upon teaching practices policies and procedures in order to continually improve course. The class content must be current and applicable to students needs abilities and interests. Capable of integrating learning technology seamlessly with lesson plans to enhance training delivery. Nonessential Functions Perform other duties as assigned Participates in special department projects as needed. Minimum Education Experience Stay current on required certifications Transparent Languages CL-150 & Rapid Rote program OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) and Pre-Assignment Training The Language Instructor must meet the following requirements prior to instructing students Target language proficiency Superior (or 3 3) as measured by ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Proficiency in English language Advance Low (or 2 2) as measured by ACTFL OPI. 3 years of recent experience teaching the target language at the secondary level or higher Bachelor s degree in teaching education language or a closely related field to be approved by Government. Knowledge Andragogy Methodology Be proficient with operating Smart Board Tech Panel PC based computers Windows Explorer and MS Office.
