Sand Sculpting

Ages 5-12 Children have an intuitive sense of spatial ability. When they close their eyes to visualize an image they are essentially using their minds eye to concentrate and problem solve. Sand offers the children a unique medium for artistic expression and opens up the world beyond paint and clay. Interpreting the world through different modalities provides the children with an opportunity to recognize their spatial talent. Developing the spatial intellect is as important as developing linguistic mathematical kinesthetic and social skills. After all Albert Einstein gathered his basic insights and inspirations from spatial models and imagery. While we are not expecting the children to split an atom at the end of the day sculpting sand will help fulfill their need for artistic expression will fostering cognitive development.
